Jorge Bernal is an associate professor in the Computer Science Department at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and an associate researcher at the Computer Vision Center. His main research activity in recent years has focused on the development and validation of intelligent systems for colonoscopy, more specifically on the development of methods for a complete characterization of polyps (detection, segmentation and automatic in-vivo histological lesion class prediction). He has been a pioneer in the creation of annotated public databases with the aim of proposing a global validation framework for testing the methods developed. Under the premise of transferring knowledge from the field of research to society, he has devoted a large part of my efforts to establishing strategic alliances with local institutions, such as the Hospital Clinic, in order to create synergies between technical and clinical personnel with the in order to develop systems that can be used in the examination room. His publications are broken down into 26 journals indexed with an impact index, 14 of them in the first quartile, 20 participations in international conferences published in proceedings, a book as editor and 9 book chapters. Regarding obtaining funding sources, he has been Principal Investigator of three competitive national projects and he is the coordinator of the first national network focused on the creation and validation of intelligent systems for colonoscopy.
